Okay you have a classic Almond Umbrella pulley snag.
First try cranking it in reverse to unsnag it. Then attempt to go in the correct direction again. Also try having someone “aid” the unbrella’s opening action while you turn the crank. Good luck!

Non-billable Expenses Through An Umbrella Company?
I work as a contractor through an umbrella company, and I am allowed to claim for non-billable expenses, upon which I receive tax relief. At the moment I claim for subsistence and my travel to / from work but next month expect to be working from home a while. What other expenses can I claim as non-billable (IE they will reduce my tax liability but won’t be charged on to the client)? I’ve recently bought a removable flash drive to transfer documents from my work PC to my laptop at home, and some toner cartridge, to allow me to print the files, but my umbrella company say they can’t allow these as expenses as HMRC deems that there is a duality in their nature (in that I could use these items for personal, as well as business, use). Same applies for broadband, line rental, etc. Are there any other expenses I can legitimately claim for? Especially as I am now £70+ out of pocket for the toner and flash drive!

I have been offered a job to work for a company through an agency but
I am a bit sceptical as some thing was mentioned about it being an umbrella company and I was wondering about how I would get paid and how it would affect my tax and national insurance.

Im employed by a agency called Synax on behalf of RM, They have advised me to be paid through their Umbrella Company, As its better than been paid through Paye, Im abit confused as what the Umbrella company does, They said something on the phone about paying less tax & NI, I dont understand, How could i be better off with having to pay them a fee (£15) Also says they take £17 a weeks for holidays/sick pay :-s
